Here’s everything you need to know to feel prepared for your newborn session. This page answers common questions, offers helpful tips, and gives you a clear idea of what to expect. After you book, you’ll also receive a detailed planning guide with even more tips to make your session smooth and stress-free.

A Few Things to Know

Most families book their newborn session during pregnancy, usually in the second or third trimester. This guarantees a spot is reserved around your due date. Since babies don’t always arrive on schedule, we’ll adjust the session date once your baby is born.

If your baby is already here, don’t worry. I often have room for last-minute sessions. I’ve photographed newborns up to six weeks old, and every stage has its own beauty.

How Long Does a Session Last?

Newborn Photography FAQ

Sessions are baby-led and never rushed, usually 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. I stay as long as needed to capture all the shots we want, and we always work at your baby’s pace.

What If My Home Doesn’t Have Enough Window Light or Feels Too Dark?

While the first two weeks often capture the sleepy, curled-up stage, I’ve photographed newborns up to eight weeks old. Every age has its own charm, and meaningful newborn photos are possible later too.

Absolutely! Parents, siblings, and grandparents are always welcome to join the photos. Including your family creates meaningful, lasting memories and helps capture the full story of your newborn’s first days.

Simple is always best. A plain onesie, diaper, or swaddle blanket keeps your photos timeless and ensures your baby stays comfortable. Minimal outfits keep the focus on your baby, not the clothing.

Many families worry their home doesn’t have enough window light, or that it feels too dark for newborn photos, especially in San Francisco apartments with tall buildings nearby. The good news is that even in spaces with limited natural light, I use professional lighting that looks soft and natural, keeping your photos bright, airy, and timeless.

About 2–3 weeks after your session, you’ll receive a full online gallery. Every image is beautifully edited, high-resolution, and yours to download, share, and print.

No. I keep sessions natural and baby-led, without props or unnatural poses. This ensures timeless, authentic images of your newborn.

Yes! I photograph families and newborns throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including Palo Alto, Los Altos, Mill Valley, Los Gatos, and beyond.
