Here’s everything you need to know to feel prepared for your newborn session. This page answers common questions, offers helpful tips, and gives you a clear idea of what to expect. After you book, you’ll also receive a detailed planning guide with even more tips to make your session smooth and stress-free.

A Few Things to Know

Most families book their newborn session during pregnancy, usually in the second or third trimester. This guarantees a spot is reserved around your due date. Since babies don’t always arrive on schedule, we’ll adjust the session date once your baby is born.

If your baby is already here, don’t worry. I often have room for last-minute sessions. I’ve photographed newborns up to six weeks old, and every stage has its own beauty.

How Long Does a Session Last?

Newborn Photography FAQ

Sessions are baby-led and never rushed. The actual photography usually takes about 1.5 hours, but I reserve up to 3–4 hours to allow plenty of time for feeding, changing, and breaks. Some sessions are quick, and some take longer, whatever your baby needs. I follow your lead, never force poses, and make sure the experience is calm, relaxed, and enjoyable for everyone.

What If My Home Doesn’t Have Enough Window Light or Feels Too Dark?

While the first two weeks often capture the sleepy, curled-up stage, I’ve photographed newborns up to eight weeks old. Every age has its own charm, and meaningful newborn photos are possible later too.

Yes! Parents, siblings, grandparents, and pets are always welcome. My sessions are designed to capture genuine connection, so anyone meaningful to you is welcome to join.

Simple is always best. A plain onesie, diaper, or swaddle blanket keeps your photos timeless and ensures your baby stays comfortable. Minimal outfits keep the focus on your baby, not the clothing.

Many families worry their home doesn’t have enough window light, or that it feels too dark for newborn photos, especially in San Francisco apartments with tall buildings nearby. The good news is that even in spaces with limited natural light, I use professional lighting that looks soft and natural, keeping your photos bright, airy, and timeless.

About 1-2 weeks after your session, you’ll be able to choose your favorite images or collection. Once selected, your high-resolution digital images will be delivered through a private online gallery where you can download, share, and print them.

No. I keep sessions natural and baby-led, without props or unnatural poses. This ensures timeless, authentic images of your newborn.

Yes! I photograph families and newborns throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Francisco, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Mill Valley, Los Gatos, and beyond, with no travel fees.

Do You Travel for Sessions?

Can you wear a mask during our newborn session?

Absolutely. I know how important it is to keep your baby safe and for you to feel at ease in your own home. If you’d like me to wear a mask during our session, just let me know, I’m happy to. My goal is always to create a comfortable, relaxed experience for your family, and that includes respecting any safety preferences you have.

Q: Do your photography sessions include digital images?

Yes! Every session includes all of your digital images, typically 50+ high-resolution photos that are perfect for printing, sharing, and enjoying for years to come. You’ll receive every image we capture, carefully edited to showcase your little one’s natural beauty.

My work is lifestyle newborn photography, which means I photograph your baby with you, in your home, using natural light and real moments. I don’t use props, wraps, or staged poses.
