Welcoming a newborn is a big transition. You’re likely tired, adjusting, and figuring things out day by day. Many parents tell me they’re simply looking for someone to come to their home and photograph their newborn naturally, without props or studio setups. If you’re considering newborn photos but feel unsure about what the experience actually looks like, this guide is here to help.
I’m Isela Lozano, an in-home newborn photographer serving San Francisco, Marin, Palo Alto, San Mateo, Los Gatos, and the surrounding Bay Area. I specialize in natural, baby-led newborn photography using natural light, for parents who want calm, honest images at home, without props, pressure, or forced posing.
When I speak with parents before their sessions, I always ask what they connect with most when it comes to photography and which images stood out to them on my website. Over and over, they share that they’re drawn to photos that feel natural, organic, and comfortable, images where their baby looks relaxed and at ease, and where the moments feel like real life. They often mention loving how the light feels soft and natural, and how the images look like them, not something staged.
This guide walks you through what to expect, how sessions work, and how to know if this style of photography is right for you.
In-home newborn photography takes place in your own home, using natural light and familiar surroundings. Rather than moving your baby into a studio environment, the session happens where you already are — feeding, soothing, resting, and adjusting to life with a newborn.
I typically photograph in spaces with the best available natural light, such as bedrooms, living rooms, or nurseries. No special setup is required.
This approach is ideal for parents who value simplicity and want their photos to reflect real life during the newborn stage, with babies photographed in a way that feels comfortable and unforced.
Newborn sessions are typically photographed within the first few weeks, but there is flexibility. Older newborns photograph beautifully as well, especially in a relaxed, in-home setting where babies can remain comfortable.
If your baby arrives earlier or later than expected, we adjust accordingly.
If this approach resonates with you, the next step is to reach out to check availability.
I’ll respond with details on current availability, what’s included, and the simple steps to reserve your session.
If you have questions or would prefer to talk things through, I’m always happy to connect, but there’s no required call unless you want one.
