When is the best time to have newborn photos taken?

Many families choose to have their newborn session within the first two weeks after birth. During this time, babies are often sleepier and naturally curl into those sweet, newborn positions. As babies get older, they tend to become more alert, which can mean more awake and interactive photographs. Every baby is different, though, and there is no exact age that works the same way for everyone.

If your baby is already two weeks old—or even a little older—you have not missed your opportunity. I photograph babies at different ages and follow their individual pace and temperament. Your session can include a mix of sleepy, awake, and family photographs, with plenty of time for feeding, diaper changes, cuddling, and settling your baby.

Do you travel to my home in San Mateo for newborn photography?

Yes. I provide in-home newborn photography throughout San Mateo and nearby Peninsula communities, including Burlingame, Hillsborough, Belmont, Foster City, Redwood City, San Carlos, and Millbrae. I travel directly to your home or apartment and bring the camera equipment needed for your session, so you don't have to travel with a newborn.

Do you photograph the whole family or just the newborn?

The whole family is welcome. San Mateo newborn sessions can include the baby alone, parents with the baby, siblings, and grandparents if they are visiting. The goal is to create a complete collection of photographs that captures your family and this particular season of your life—not just portraits of the baby.

What if my San Mateo home or apartment doesn't have much natural light?

That's okay. I use the natural light available in your home and look for the best-lit areas, whether that's a bedroom, nursery, living room, or another space with a good window. We don't need a large or perfectly styled home to create beautiful, natural newborn photographs.

Are your newborn sessions posed or more natural and unposed?

My approach is natural, relaxed, and baby-led. I provide gentle direction when needed, but I don't use props, backdrops, or complicated setups. We allow time for feeding, diaper changes, cuddling, and settling your baby so the session never feels rushed.

Do you use props or bring a studio setup to my San Mateo home?

No. My in-home newborn photography is completely prop-free. I don't bring backdrops or elaborate studio setups. Instead, I use your home and the natural light available to create simple, timeless photographs centered on your baby and your family.

Do I need a large or beautifully decorated home for an in-home newborn session?

Not at all. Your home does not need to look like a magazine. I work with the spaces and natural light you already have and focus on the connection between your family members. Even a smaller San Mateo apartment can provide everything we need for a beautiful session.
